Climate in Barcelona

Barcelona has a coastal Mediterranean climate softened by the sea. Summers are warm and humid, with typical highs of 28-30 degrees Celsius and frequent tropical nights, while winters are mild with lows rarely below 5 degrees.

The most pleasant seasons are late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October), when comfortable temperatures coincide with a still-warm sea. In summer relative humidity above 70% raises the heat index noticeably.

Rain peaks in autumn and often falls as intense showers driven by Mediterranean cut-off lows. DANA episodes can dump more than 100 mm in a few hours, with flash flood risk along urban rieras such as the Besos or the Llobregat. Annual precipitation is around 600 mm.

The easterly llevant wind brings cloudy skies and swell to Barceloneta beach, while the mestral dries the air. The heat-island effect over the Eixample and morning sea fog around Montjuic are worth checking by photographers and visitors. Use our forecast to plan trips to the Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell or the beach with the right weather window.
