Climate in Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers from December to March (average highs of 30 degrees Celsius) and mild winters from June to August (average lows of 8 degrees). Remember that the seasons are reversed compared to the northern hemisphere.
Annual rainfall is around 1,200 mm, spread across the year but peaking in summer. Convective thunderstorms, sometimes with hail, are frequent and can be intense. The Rio de la Plata channels breezes that soften afternoons.
The sudestada, a persistent south-easterly wind, can cause river surges and flooding in low-lying parts of the city. The pampero, a southerly wind, brings cold, dry air after fronts.
Best time to visit is the austral spring (October-November) and autumn (March-May). Use the hourly forecast, storm alerts and Rio de la Plata level before planning La Boca, San Telmo or Puerto Madero.
