Climate in Cartagena

Cartagena has an extreme semi-arid Mediterranean climate moderated by its natural harbour. Summer highs hover around 30 degrees Celsius and winter lows stay above 7 degrees thanks to sea influence.

Annual rainfall barely reaches 280 mm, one of the lowest in Europe. Rain concentrates in autumn, with DANA episodes triggering flash floods along the ramblas of the Campo de Cartagena.

Easterlies bring humidity and coastal cloud, while westerlies dry the air and raise wildfire risk in the sierra. Saharan calima is frequent in summer.

Best time to visit is spring, avoiding the July-August heat. Use the hourly forecast, wind alerts and sea temperature before planning the Roman Theatre, the Foro Romano district or a day at Calblanque beach.
