Climate in Lisbon

Lisbon enjoys an Atlantic-influenced Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers (average highs of 28 degrees Celsius) and mild, wet winters (average lows of 8 degrees). It is one of the sunniest European capitals.

Annual rainfall is around 720 mm, concentrated between November and March. Atlantic depressions can deliver significant rain in a few days, while summer is practically dry.

The nortada, a northerly wind blowing in summer afternoons, refreshes the city and favours surf at Cascais and Costa da Caparica. Proximity to the Tagus estuary moderates humidity.

Best time to visit is spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October). Use the hourly forecast, UV index and sea temperature before planning the Belem Tower, Alfama or a trip to Sintra.
