Climate in Logroño

Logroño, capital of La Rioja, sits in the Ebro valley with a continental Mediterranean climate strongly influenced by the cierzo. Summers are hot with average highs of 30 degrees Celsius, and winters are cold with lows that can fall below 0.

Annual rainfall is around 400 mm, mainly in spring and autumn. The north-westerly cierzo dries the air, a key factor for Riojan vineyards, while the south-easterly bochorno brings humidity and storms.

Hail storms in spring and summer are a main risk for the harvest. Hydrological drought hits the Iregua and Najerilla reservoirs in dry periods.

Best time to visit is May to September, with the San Mateo festival in September. Use the hourly forecast, hail alerts and cierzo wind data before planning the Camino de Santiago or the Riojan bodegas.
