Climate in Mataro
Mataro, capital of the Maresme, has a coastal Mediterranean climate very similar to Barcelonas, softened by the sea and sheltered by the coastal range. Summers are warm and humid with average highs of 29 degrees Celsius, and winters mild with lows of 7 degrees.
Annual rainfall is around 610 mm, concentrated in autumn. DANA events and coastal thunderstorms can deliver heavy rain, flooding the Maresme rieras as in 1962 and in several recent years.
The SW garbi brings sea humidity, while occasional tramuntana from the north adds dry, clear days. Sea temperatures allow swimming from May to October.
Best time to visit is spring and early autumn. Use the hourly forecast, flood alerts and sea temperature before planning the old town, El Callao beach or a route along the Maresme coast.
