Climate in Oviedo

Oviedo, at 230 metres elevation and about 25 km from the Cantabrian Sea, has an oceanic climate with an inland twist: slightly cooler winters and warmer summers than the coast.

Annual rainfall is around 970 mm, spread across all seasons. Fog in the Nalon basin and constant humidity sustain the meadows and forests of Sierra del Naranco.

In winter, snowfalls are occasional in the city but plentiful at the Pajares Pass and the Cantabrian range, where the Valgrande-Pajares resort offers some of the best snow cover in northern Spain.

Best time to visit is May to September, avoiding the wettest months. Use the hourly forecast, snow level and road conditions before planning the cathedral, the Naranco or a day in the Picos de Europa.
