Climate in Palma

Palma de Mallorca enjoys a mild island Mediterranean climate year-round. The south-facing bay and the nearby Serra de Tramuntana moderate temperatures: warm but breezy summers with average highs of 30 degrees Celsius, and mild winters with lows rarely below 5 degrees.

High season runs May to October, when sea temperatures stay above 20 degrees. May, June and September are ideal for mixing beach and culture while avoiding the August crowds.

Annual rainfall is around 450 mm, mostly in autumn. Cut-off lows can deliver heavy local downpours, especially over the Pla and the Tramuntana. The embat, an afternoon sea breeze, is one of the signature features of Balearic summers.

In winter, northerly storms can bring snow to the Tramuntana (Puig Major), visible from Palma. Use the hourly forecast, radar and alerts to plan trips to the cathedral, Bellver castle or the coves along the coast.
