Climate in San Sebastian
San Sebastian enjoys a typical eastern Cantabrian oceanic climate, with mild summers (average highs of 24 degrees Celsius) and mild winters (lows of 5 degrees). Annual temperature range is very narrow.
Annual rainfall exceeds 1,500 mm over more than 150 rainy days. Atlantic west and north-westerly fronts are frequent, and storms can generate large waves at La Concha and Zurriola, with peaks above 8 metres.
A warm, dry southerly wind can lift winter temperatures above 30 degrees during Pyrenean foehn episodes. The galerna, a sudden north-westerly wind shift, is a signature coastal phenomenon to watch out for water sports.
Best time to visit Donostia is June to September, with the Semana Grande in August. Use the hourly forecast, wave height and rain probability before planning Igueldo, La Concha beach or a gastronomic tour of the Parte Vieja.
