Climate in Valencia
Valencia enjoys a coastal Mediterranean climate with more than 300 sunny days a year. Summers are hot and humid, with highs around 30 degrees Celsius and tropical nights, while winters are very mild, with average lows above 7 degrees.
The best time to visit is spring, especially March (Las Fallas) and May, plus late summer. In August humidity can be oppressive near the port and Malvarrosa beach.
Rainfall is strongly concentrated in autumn. The cut-off low (gota fria or DANA) is the regions signature and most dangerous weather phenomenon: it caused historic events such as the 1982 Tous dam disaster and the tragic October 2024 DANA that devastated several towns in the metropolitan area. Annual precipitation is around 470 mm.
Terrain and proximity to the sea drive sea breezes that cool the afternoon, plus easterly winds that bring coastal thunderstorms. Use our hourly forecast, rain radar and alerts to plan a route between the City of Arts and Sciences and the beach, or any visit to the Valencian huerta.
