Climate in Zaragoza

Zaragoza has a semi-arid continental climate, set in the middle Ebro valley and ringed by the Moncayo range, the Pyrenees and the Iberian System. Summers are very hot and dry, with regular highs above 35 degrees Celsius, and winters are cold with frequent persistent fog.

The signature local weather phenomenon is the cierzo, a strong, dry north-westerly wind that can blow for several days, clearing the sky but also amplifying the winter chill. Its south-easterly counterpart, the bochorno, brings humidity and thunderstorms.

Annual rainfall barely reaches 320 mm, one of the lowest figures in the peninsula. Rain concentrates in spring and autumn as thunderstorms, sometimes with hail, which can overwhelm local stormwater systems.

The best time to visit Zaragoza is spring and early autumn, avoiding the July heat peak. Use the hourly forecast, radar and alerts to plan El Pilar, the October fiestas or a trip to the Aljaferia under a clear sky.
